Continuous Glucose Monitoring System
The Continuous Glucose Monitoring System measures the patient’s blood glucose, insulin, and glucagon levels every second (which represents 5 minutes of simulated time). Because our project is merely a simulation, we had to essentially create a patient’s data. For all times outside the patient’s meal time, the patient’s blood glucose level will be the basal glucose level (fasting glucose). This basal glucose level stays constant for all times but starts to decrease just prior to a patient’s mealtime when the patient is waiting for his or her food. The patient’s basal glucose level is determined from the patient’s body mass index, which is calculated from the patient’s age, weight, and gender information that the patient enters. During meal time, however, the patient’s blood glucose will be the sum of the patient’s basal glucose and any glucose added during digestion (glucAdd). Likewise, the patient’s blood insulin, outside of meal times, will be equal to the patient’s basal insulin. This basal insulin level is computed from the diabetic severity level that the patient enters. During meal times, following a rise in blood glucose, the patient’s basal insulin will rise at a slope that is inversely proportional to the patient’s entered diabetic severity level. The glucagon is simply inversely related to the glucose (In our code, glucose * glucagon = 9600)
